The result of the 2024 General Election has seen the Labour party win a 174-seat majority in the UK Parliament.

The new Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer has been busy appointing his cabinet and, in our video we discuss the implications for housing, which will remain under the portfolio for Levelling Up, and will be overseen by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner.

For the lettings industry, key stakeholders such as the NRLA (National Residential Landlord Association), and Propertymark representing agents within the PRS will already be consulting with the government to put forward views and ideas in what is needed to help improve and modernise the sector.

Matters to expect will be -
-Scrapping of Section 21
-Bringing in a Decent Homes Standard
-Creating minimum energy efficiency standards by 2030.
-Giving tenants the abilities to challenge unreasonable rent increases, and ban ‘bidding wars’ for tenants.
